Israel launched a missile attack on Iran late on Thursday in retaliation to Iran’s drone attack.

US broadcaster ABC News, while citing a senior US official, reported that Israel had launched a missile attack against a site in Iran.

The Iranian news agency also confirmed explosions heard near the airport at the country’s central city, Isfahan.

The News agency informed, “The cause of these sounds is still unknown, and investigations continue until the exact details of the incident are determined.”

A senior US official told CNN that the target of the Israeli strike on Iran was “Never specified in precise terms, but nuclear and civilian locations were clearly not in that category.”

Moreover, Iran’s air defences were activated after the attack and flights in several areas, including Tehran and Isfahan, were suspended.

Meanwhile, no casualties have been reported yet.

Earlier last Saturday, Iran launched around 300 drones and missiles at Israel in retaliation to a suspected Israeli strike on its consulate in Syria, killing Iran's high-ranked commander.

Later, Israel promised to respond back to Iran amid the Western world, including its ally, the US, calls for restraint.
