Tesla CEO Elon Musk made an unexpected trip to Beijing on Sunday.

As per Reuters, during his visit, Musk is scheduled to meet with senior officials to talk about the rollout of Tesla's full self-driving software and the authorization to transfer data overseas.

Chinese state media reported that Musk met Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, during which Li told Musk that Tesla's development in China could be regarded as a successful example of U.S.-China economic and trade cooperation.

Musk confirmed his meeting with Premier Li through a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter),expressing his honor, and also shared a picture with  Li.

"Honored to meet with Premier Li Qiang. We have known each other now for many years, since early Shanghai days."

Tesla established its first factory outside the U.S. in Shanghai in 2018, following an agreement with Chinese authorities.

Although Tesla introduced its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software four years ago, it has not yet been made available in China. Musk recently indicated that FSD may soon be accessible to Chinese customers.

While, Rival Chinese automakers like Xpeng have been seeking to gain an advantage over Tesla by rolling out similar software.

Meanwhile, Musk is seeking approval to transfer data collected in China overseas to improve Tesla's autonomous driving technology.

Moreover this visit was not publicly announced, and the source spoke anonymously due to lack of authorization to speak with the media.

Additionally, since entering the Chinese market a decade ago, Tesla has sold over 1.7 million cars, with its Shanghai factory being the company's largest globally.
