Israel-Gaza war: Universities worldwide join forces in pro-Palestinian protests
Universities all around the world are protesting against Israel's war in Gaza

In recent weeks, demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians under Israeli siege in Gaza have spread across universities and all around the world.

According to CNN, more than 2,000 people have been arrested at US campuses since April 18, 2024, but the standoffs and clashes at New York’s Columbia University, University of California Las Angeles (UCLA) and Portland State have captured global attention.

These protests and clashes have led to demonstrations in other parts of the world, too.

Here are the countries where pro-Palestinian protest is underway in their state universities:

The United States

Students protesting Israeli genocide in Gaza have pooped up at many college campuses after demonstrations held at Columbia University.

Universities across the US were preparing for the graduation ceremonies while the students prepared to raise their voices against the humanitarian crisis and war in Gaza.

More than 25 Universities in the US are protesting for Gaza including Columbia University, California State Polytechnic University, Yale University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Northwestern University, and University of California Los Angeles.

The United Kingdom

Pro-Palestinian protests have been held at universities across the UK since the early days of Israel’s war in Gaza, but in recent days, students have set up encampments on the campuses.

Students in the cities of Leeds, Bristol and Warwick have sent up tents outside their university buildings. At Newcastle University a group describe itself as a “Student-led coalition fighting for an end to Newcastle University’s partnership with defense companies supplying Israel.”

Students at the University of Queensland in Brisbane have become a gathering point for rival camps, while the University of Sydney also has about 50 tents where up to 100 protestors are sleeping each night.

France

In Paris, pro-Palestinian protests erupted at the Sciences Po University and Sorbonne University in late April. A student from the Sciences Po university told CNN, “We are inspired by Columbia, Harvard, Yale, UNC, Vanderbilt. All these universities have mobilized, but our solidarity remains with the Palestinian people first and foremost.”
