In a devastating incident in St Petersburg, Russia, a passenger bus veered off a bridge and plunged into the Moika river on Friday.

As per Reuters, local authorities confirmed that three people lost their lives in the accident.

According to reports from the local department of the emergencies ministry, the bus was carrying around 20 passengers when it crashed off the bridge.

As a result, three passengers lost their lives, while six others were rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment.

Local authorities said the bus was nearly completely submerged in the river, and emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue the passengers, with rescue boats deployed and ambulances on standby.

However, a surveillance video released by Russian media showed the bus driving fast, making a sharp turn on to the bridge and colliding with another vehicle before breaking through a barrier and falling into the water.

The driver of the bus has been detained, as per reports from the RIA news agency.

Moreover, this heart-breaking incident has shocked the residents of St Petersburg, and investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
