Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has attacked the ‘designated safe zone,’ Tel as-Sultan, in the southern Gaza city, Rafah, killing more than 35 Palestinians on Sunday, May 26, night.

According to Al Jazeera, the officials have informed that Israeli forces have bombed a tent camp housing displaced people in the Rafah safe zone, killing at least 35 people. Most of the victims are children and women.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) saying that many of the displaced people inside the tents were ‘burned alive.’

PRCS told the agency that hospitals in the area “Are incapable of handling this large number of victims as a result of (Israeli) occupation’s deliberate destruction of the health system in Gaza.”

As per Palestinian officials, during the past 24 hours, the IDF before the Tal as-Sultan area also bombed the shelter housing displaced Palestinian in Jabalia, Nuseirat and Gaza City, killing at least 160 others.

Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, stressed the urgent need for an intervention to stop the crimes committed against Palestinian people immediately.

He further added that the ‘heinous massacre’ is a challenge to international orders, including “The lucid and candid ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to cease its military offensive against the city of Rafah and provide protection to the Palestinian people.”

However, the Israeli military claimed its aircraft struck a ‘Hamas compound’ in Rafah in which ‘significant Hamas terrorists were operating.”

Additionally, earlier in the day, Hamas fired eight rockets from Rafah towards Tel Aviv, the first long-range attacks on the city since January, reported BBC
