Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu calls Rafah camp airstrike a 'Tragic Mistake'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that Sunday's deadly airstrike on a Rafah camp in Gaza had "tragically gone wrong."

As per Sky News, speaking at the Israeli Knesset on Monday, Netanyahu stated, "Despite our best efforts not to harm those not involved, unfortunately, a tragic mistake happened last night. We are investigating the case."

The airstrike, which hit a camp for displaced people, resulted in at least 45 deaths and 200 wounded, according to Gaza's government media office.

Meanwhile, the strike has drawn condemnation, with Gaza health officials reporting that half of the casualties were women, children, and older adults.

Israel's top military prosecutor described the incident as "very grave," with an ongoing investigation by the armed forces.

Moreover, a spokesperson with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said the death toll was likely to increase as search and rescue efforts continued.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the attack on Sunday night, which appeared to be among the deadliest of the conflict, contributed to raising the total Palestinian death toll in the war above 36,000.
