OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his partner Oliver Mulherin have recently joined the Giving Pledge, a charitable initiative urging the ultra-rich to donate their wealth to philanthropic causes.

As per CNN, in a letter released on Tuesday, Altman and Oliver credited "the hard work, brilliance, generosity, and dedication to improve the world of many people that built the scaffolding of society that let us get here."

According to Bloomberg, Altman's net worth is at least $2 billion, largely from startup investments like Reddit.

Notably, he doesn't have a stake in OpenAI, the tech company that’s at the forefront of artificial intelligence.

Started in 2010 by Warren Buffett, Bill, and Melinda French Gates, the Giving Pledge encourages billionaires to donate at least half of their wealth to charity during their lifetimes or in their wills.

While, not legally binding, the pledge is a moral commitment to inspire action towards philanthropy.

There are currently more than 245 couples and individuals from 30 countries that have signed on.

Earlier, Melinda French Gates announced a $1 billion donation through 2026 to advance women's rights globally through her organization, Pivotal Ventures, following her recent resignation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
