Leader and co-founder of Sinaloa Cartel Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García along with Mexican drug lord, Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán’s son, were arrested on Thursday, July 25 from Texas.

The Federal authorities announced that Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez were arrested in El Paso, Texas, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), CBS News reported.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement, “Garcia and Guzman have allegedly overseen the trafficking of tens of thousands of pounds of drugs into the United States, along with related violence.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland stated, “The Justice Department has taken into custody two additional alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organisations in the world.”

Both men are facing multiple charges in the US besides leading the cartel’s operation, which includes a trafficking network and the manufacturing of deadly fentanyl.

The Attorney General further added, “Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, and the Justice Department will not rest until every single cartel leader, member, and associate responsible for poisoning our communities is held accountable.”
