Paris Olympics 2024: Nadal and Alcaraz shine in opening doubles triumph

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz won their first double against Argentina

The Spaniard duo, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, captivated fans at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, July 27, with a phenominal display of games on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

According to CNN, a dream pairing of ‘Nadalcaraz’ gained huge support from the crowd during a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory over Argentina’s Máximo González and Andrés Molteni.

In a rare opportunity of life, fans got a chance to see two biggest names of tennis together on the court, where Nadal has won 14 French Open titles whereas Alcaraz won his first title last month.

Nadal told reporters after the match, “It’s been an emotional night, an electrifying night, an amazing crowd. Playing with Carlos on this court has been so special. We’re just super happy about the victory, that it’s given us the chance to keep going.”

He further added, “Yesterday was a super emotional moment for me too, and I can’t thank Paris and France enough for giving me that honor." The emotion’s still very high, so just enjoy every single moment.”

Nadal, who was not hopeful about the win before the match, shared some beautiful moments from the match with his doubles partner Alcaraz on Instagram with the caption, “Let's go Spain, let's go yessss”

Nadal’s coach, Carlos Moyá, said before Saturday’s match, “You see Rafa with his experience and charisma. And then you see Carlos, kind of like Rafa was aged 20 or 21, very expressive and effusive … Hopefully they can keep going because it’s a partnership that tennis fans can fall in love with.”
