Punjabi singer Jazzy B’s Twitter account was suspended on the request of the Indian government as he raised his voice against the new farm laws being imposed on them.
His twitter account was banned because he spoke up in favour of the farmers and even joined in the protests held on the border of the national capital many times. The account was only withheld in India and could be used from outside the country.
The greatest change faced by farmers is that they will be able to sell their products directly to private player’s such as agricultural businesses and supermarkets, at market price, whereas before, the farmer’s were protected from the free market.
Twitter stated, “When we receive a valid legal request, we review it under both the Twitter Rules and local law. If the content violates Twitter's rules the content will be removed from the service. If it is determined to be illegal in a particular jurisdiction, but not in violation of the Twitter Rules, we may withhold access to the content in India only. In all cases, we notify the account holder directly so they're aware that we've received a legal order pertaining to the account. We notify the user(s) by sending a message to the email address associated with the account(s), if available.”
Twitter was concerned whether imposing the ban was not endangering social media laws protecting freedom of speech.
