Thailand has imposed a ban on all tourists from visiting Cambodia after a border dispute between the two countries escalated.
According to BBC, the restriction applies to any person, vehicle and foreign tourist trying to enter into Cambodia from checkpoints across several Thai provinces or flying into Siem Reap.
However, as per authorities, students or medical patients could be exempted from the ban at the discretion of officials at the checkpoints.
The Thai military on Monday stated that the new restrictions "matched the current security situation."
The tension between two countries reached itsworst in more than a decade after a Cambodian soldier died during an armed clash on the border in May.
Despite agreeing to de-escalate their dispute, the two countries continued to implement restrictions on each other. Combidia banned imports from Thailand, ranging from fruit and vegetables to electricity, the internet and even Thai dramas and films.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Monday vowed to take action against scam operations in Cambodia by suspending internet service used by its security agencies.
Furthermore, the dispute between two countries has also thrown Thailand into a political crisis after a phone call between Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodia's strongman ex-leader Hun Sen in which she could be heard calling him "uncle" and telling him to ignore a Thai military commander who "just wanted to look cool."
Notably, following the phone leak, Thailand’s Bhumjaithai party, which left the ruling coalition last week, announced it would introduce a no-confidence vote against Shinawatra and her cabinet.
