Lionel Messi went viral after a shock penalty miss during Inter Miami's devastating defeat in the MLS.
According to The Sun, the 38-year-old is considered by many as the greatest football star of all time after winning every single honour available as well as eight Ballon d'Or awards during a glittering 21-year career.
However, the star forward was far from his best on Saturday when Inter Miami lost 3-0 to Charlotte in North Carolina.
But the Argentina captain had the chance to break the deadlock for the visitors before Idan Toklomati's hat-trick. Javier Mascherano's side earned a penalty kick in the half-hour mark following a VAR review and Messi took it.
The away end was getting ready to celebrate their team's first goal of the night.
However, the Barcelona legend opted for a Panenka shot, which went completely south.
Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina was too quick and wasn't caught by surprise as he simply palmed Messi's poor attempt away with his right hand.
And everything just went downhill after that as David Beckham's team conceded three goals and lost Tomas Aviles to a second yellow card.
Fans were left furious as they stormed social media slamming the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star's decision. Some even went overboard as they suggested the MLS superstar is "washed".
