Royal Family has revealed a major update on King Harald V's state funeral.

On Sunday, August 30th, the Amalienborg Palace shared a special announcement on behalf of King Frederik X.

The 58-year-old monarch of Denmark has confirmed his appearance at the state funeral of the late Norwegian monarch with a surprise update.

Taking to Instagram, the monarch's aides announced that His Majesty is set to travel to Norway to attend the solemn event, alongside his wife, Queen Mary.

In the statement, Their Majesties confirmed that the couple had postponed their upcoming state visit to Belgium to attend the state funeral of the late King Harald V of Norway, scheduled for September 9th, 2026.

"In connection with the death of His Majesty King Harald V, the state visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen to Belgium, which was to have taken place on September 8th to 10th 2026, is postponed," they stated.

Nina Munch Perrin, the Head of Communications, also revealed in the statement that the royal couple will attend King Harald’s funeral, while a future announcement about other members of the Danish Royal Family's participation will be made at a later date.

This update came after the tragic demise of the World's oldest monarch, who passed away in Oslo on August 28th of this year at the age of 89, at the National Norwegian Hospital.

What is Denmark royal family's connection with Norwegian royal family?

To show support for the grieving King of Norway, Haakon VIII, who has taken over the throne without a coronation ceremony, King Frederik X ordered flags at Amalienborg Palace to fly at half-mast and shared personal condolences highlighting King Harald’s warmth and close family ties.

The royal couple also released a statement for King Haakon, expressing grief, saying, "Your father has had a great impact on my mother and on us."

"Uncle Harald, with his warm personality and rock-solid calm, could make anyone relax in his company. He was a fine man with a twinkle in his eye and a big heart," they added.

For those unaware, King Harald was godfather to King Frederik, and the closeness of the families continues down the line.

King Frederik was King Haakon's best man at his 2001 wedding to Queen Mette-Marit, and the two are godfathers to each other's heir—King Frederik to Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and King Haakon to Crown Prince Christian.
