A US man who frequently complained about migraines was discovered with tapeworm larvae in his brain, likely due to consumption of under cooked bacon.

According to the BBC, a 52-year-old man visited his doctor when his usual migraines became severe and the regular pills failed to cure the pain.

Later, after a scan, it was found that there are tapeworm larval cysts in his brain that become the reason for ‘cysticercosis’.

As per US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cysticercosis is an infection of parasitic tissues that occurs when someone swallows tapeworm eggs passed through the feces of someone with intestinal tapeworm.

Then these tapeworm eggs become larval cysts that may infect the muscle, tissues or brain, CNN reported.

The doctors believe that the man got tapeworm because of eating under cooked pork, and ‘infected himself’. The doctor also said the reason behind his condition is ‘improper hand washing’.

As per reports, “It can only be speculated but given our patient’s predilection for under cooked pork and benign exposure history, we favor that his cysticercosis was transmitted via auto infection after improper hand washing after he has contracted himself from his eating habits.”

The man fully recovered after anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic medication.
