Aryna Sabalenka, world's second best tennis player is all set to play in the Miami Open even after the shocking death of her boyfriend on Monday, March 18.

The organisers confirmed her participation on Tuesday, March 19.

Organisers said that she is ‘intending to play’ and has not asked to withdraw.

The two-time Grand Slam winner was seen practicing for the tournament on Tuesday at Open’s Hard Rock Stadium just a day after boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, passed away.

Koltsov, 42 was a former NHL ice hockey player, and tragically died after jumping from a hotel balcony in Miami.

The Miami-Dade police department said it was an ‘apartment suicide,’ BBC reported.

Koltsov represented Belarus in the Winter Olympics 2002 and 2010. He was also associated with the Pittsburgh Penguin in the NHL for three years.

Meanwhile Sabalenka, 25, has won Australian Opens title for two consecutive times in 2023 and 2024. She also has won the US Open 2019 and the Australian Open 2021 doubles titles.

She will play her first match of the Miami Open on Friday, March 22, against Spain’s Paula Badosa.
