Actor Sunil Grover, who is known to portray hilarious characters in Indian TV, desperately needed the fans to see his versatility as a performer. After working in Tandav, Sunil is happy to notice that people are accepting him in other roles as well.

The actor who portrayed popular characters like Gutthi, Rinku Bhabhi and Dr Mashoor Gulati is now on a new venture to explore his dramatic side on the big screen by taking more serious roles in Gabbar is Back, Baaghi, and Pataakha.

The 43-year-old actor appeared in a zoom interview with PTI and opened up about the struggle he had to face to make the Indian audience take him seriously after years of playing comedic roles.

"In TV, when a character works, you end up doing it for years. In a long story format, you have to set a graph for your role. I am trying to get used to this. It is a new world for me. However, I enjoy (acting in) both worlds. I feel grateful for the experiences that I am getting in this lifetime. I am enjoying this new phase,” Sunil said.

He further added that he did not plan to pursue comedy. Life pulled him towards that direction and at the time it felt like the right choice. He talked about coming with “comedic baggage” that made shifting paths in his career not so easy.

"What I did earlier wasn't planned because I started with something else and I went into something else. I come with so much comedic baggage of so many years. It is challenging to break that sort of image. The fear of not being accepted in certain roles... But people have accepted me and I feel happy about it,” he added.
