Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, and now private details from her final moments before passing away have emerged in a new book by royal biographer, Robert Hardman.

The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy was released to the public on January 18, as reported by Daily Mail.

Queen Elizabeth’s private secretary, Sir Edward Young, was present at the Balmoral Castle when she departed.

He reported, “Very peaceful. In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age. She wouldn’t have been aware of anything. No pain.”

It has also been mentioned in the book that while there already were concerns about the ex-Monarch’s health, her death still occurred abruptly, so King Charles hastily got on a helicopter to visit her.

He and wife Queen Camilla spent about an hour by her bedside before she left this world.

Senior Dresser Angela Kelly along with Princess Anne took turns to sit with Queen Elizabeth II as well.

Rev Kenneth MacKenzie, who ministered Crathie Kirk, read verses from the Bible for her.

During this time, King Charles contacted both of his sons to reach Scotland as soon as possible so they could bid their farewells, too, although he believed that his mother still has a few more days to live.

The excerpt mentioned that Prince William reached the venue too late, whereas contact with Prince Harry couldn’t be established despite numerous attempts as he was on a flight.

In another section, it’s noted that King Charles learned of Queen Elizabeth II’s death when he was on his way back to the Balmoral Castle and was asked to pull over by his senior aide.

For the first time, the now Monarch was addressed as “Your Majesty,” and it was in that moment that he realized what had happened.
