King Charles has been sent a resignation letter by Humza Yousaf, who is Scotland’s youngest and first person of color to have held the position of a First Minister.

He announced of having decided to step down last week, only a year after his election in March of last year.

During his appointment, the diplomat was the “first Muslim leader of any Western nation,” as told by the Scottish government in its press statement.

Today, on May 7, he officially presented his written resignation to King Charles that has been accepted and notified of by the Parliament.

Humza Yousaf wrote, “As a young Muslim boy, born and raised in Scotland, I could never have dreamt that one day I would have the privilege of leading my country.”

He recounted some of his achievements, such as “council tax freeze for households in every local authority,” investing “record amounts in National Health Service,” and keeping “100,000 children out of poverty.”

Directly addressing King Charles, the politician penned, “With my humble duty, I write as anticipated in my letter to Your Majesty of 29 April to tender to Your Majesty my resignation from the office of First Minister.”

“Throughout my time, I have been most grateful for your counsel and the kindness you have shown to both Nadia and I. It has been my pleasure to serve Your Majesty and the people of Scotland,” he added.

Humza Yousaf concluded the mail by signing off with his name.
