Mexico is currently battling 159 active wildfires across the country due to the second heat wave of the year.
According to Times, the National Forecast Commission (Conafor), the wildfires spread across 75,474 hectares (186,500 acres), and it is also informed that 30 of the fires were in protected natural areas.
The National Weather Service of Mexico has issued an alert that at least 12 states will experience temperatures higher than 45C (113F), with large swathes of the rest of the country expected to see temperatures higher than 30C.
Moreover, the heat waves have increased the demand for power, due to which available power has gone below the adequate levels.
The country’s grid operators, for the second time in the week on Thursday, declared that the power system is in a state of emergency. Mexico City and several other regions in the country have also faced blackouts.
As per El Universal's report, several schools in areas like San Luis have been shut down due to high temperatures.
Parts of the country have also been dealing with the drought. In recent months, about 20 million people in the capital have seen intermittent water supply due to lower rainfall.
