Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was pictured crying while visiting the train station on July 25, which was damaged during recent deadly protests by students over the government job quota.

According to BBC, the picture of Hasina wiping tears sparked Bangladeshi citizens' reactions, who said that she shed ‘crocodile tears’ and that the prime minister is more concerned about train station destruction than the lives of young students.

Moreover, the Bangladeshi newspaper The Business Standard quoted the prime minister, as saying, “What kind of mentality leads them to destroy facilities that make people's lives easier? Dhaka city was clogged with traffic. The metro rail offered respite. I cannot accept the destruction of this transport facility made with modern technology.”

An X (formerly known as Twitter) user said, “We lost (hundreds of) students. But PM Sheikh Hasina had the time to go "cry" for a metro rail, not for the people who won't return ever again.”

Another commented, “Shedding crocodile tears for a railway track while others (have died)...." While a Facebook user claimed, “No doubt that she went there to... get some attention and empathy.”

Journalist Zulkarnian Saer said, “Hasina had the time to visit the vandalised train station, but she did not visit the families of the students... shot dead (during protests)."

For the unversed, in recent weeks, violent protests swept Bangladesh, in which students were demanding to amend the percentage of reserved seats for freedom fighters, relatives, and families in government job quotas.

During the massive protests, security forces allegedly used excessive force against demonstrators, resulting in the deaths of over 150 people.
