UFC 304: Belal Muhammad upsets Leon Edwards to claim title in Manchester

Belal Muhammad is the first Palestinian to win the Ultimate Fighting Championship

Belal Muhammad has upstaged welterweight champion Leon Edwards in Ultimate Fighting Championship main event UFC 304 on Sunday, July 28, in Manchester.

According to BBC, Belal outclassed Birmingham’s Edwards in five rounds. The judges score the fight 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 for the 36-year-old Palestinian.

The new welterweight champion told TNT Sports, “It sounds like all of the people booing have got a lot of tears coming out of their eyes. I've got my family in here. God first, always. This fight is for my family, my people, and for Palestine.

He further added, "I got the best team in the world, we study to the core, we get better. We've got the best strikers; these guys are killers. You might not know their names, but we've got a real champion in Chicago now. I'm Belal Muhammad. I'm my own man. Now that the world sees it, they've got to respect it.”

Belal concluded, saying, "Ian Larios needs to make me something unhealthy; I've only eaten healthy for six weeks."

Meanwhile, the former champion Edward, in an interview with TNT Sports, said, “Not surprising, my body just felt tired from round one. All week I've felt tired. Congratulations to Belal, we will be back."

Additionally, Belal becomes the first Palestinian to claim the UFC title.
