Simone Biles faced a minor calf issue but still led her subdivision in the women's artistic gymnastics qualifications on July 28 in Paris.

Biles, 27, has been dealing with this issue for a few weeks, according to US women's gymnastics Olympic Head Coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi.

As per PEOPLE, she stated that it was "never in her mind" for Biles to skip the competition, and noted that "she started to feel better" during the final rotation on the uneven bars.

Canqueteau-Landi assured that Biles is expected to compete in the women's team final on July 30.

Meanwhile, Technical Lead Chellsie Memmel praised Biles as an outstanding gymnast and person, noting her remarkable performance despite her soreness.

The US has already secured a spot in the team final, with three more subdivisions yet to compete on Sunday.

The top eight teams will advance to the final. Biles leads her subdivision with a score of 59.566, and the top 24 gymnasts, with a maximum of two per country, will compete in the individual all-around final.

This competition marks a comeback for Biles, who withdrew from several events at the Tokyo Games in 2021 due to the twisties, a condition causing disorientation during flips.
