Meta is trying to make Facebook a platform for young adults from the platform of parents and grandparents.

According to Reuters, during a content creators' event on Friday, October 4, Facebook announced its two new tabs called Local and Explore. The tabs that are currently tested in selected cities and areas will be launched for the users soon.

The Local tab will help the user find events, local times of sales, and community groups near them, while the Explore tab will recommend user content of their interest.

The head of Facebook at Meta, Tom Alison, said that the platform was originally created to help users stay in touch with friends and family, but the future of it lies in making it a platform that helps people expand their contacts and network.

Ahead of the content creators' events Alison, during an interview in Austin, Texas, said, “We see young adults turn to Facebook when they make a transition in life. When they move to a new city, they’re using Marketplace to furnish their apartments. When they become parents, they’re joining parenting groups.”

Furthermore, Facebook has fastened its effort to attract young adults to the social media platform since the competitor app TikTok has gained popularity among Gen Zs. The short video app has over 150 million users in the US.
