Two asteroids are expected to pass near the Earth on Monday, December 16.
As per Times Now, two asteroids, 2024 XY5 and 2024 XB6 are moving at very high speed and will come closest to Earth in the early morning.
Asteroid XY5 is 71 feet wide, which is about the size of a small aeroplane. Whereas, asteroid XB6 is a bit smaller, with a diameter of 56 feet, making it about the size of a house.
Studying them can give scientists valuable information about the Earth’s beginnings and the history of the universe.
But there’s no need to worry as NASA assured that these asteroids do not pose any immediate danger to Earth.
Past events, such as the asteroids that led to the extinction of dinosaurs, show why it’s important to keep track of these objects.
In addition to this, NASA continuously monitors near-Earth objects (NEOs).
While, the asteroids in this case are not dangerous, their close passes serve as a reminder of the importance of being cautious about the dangers posed by space debris.
