US President Donald Trump has issued a serious warning to Venezuela after its fighter jets flew over an American warship.

According to AA, Trump on Friday, September 5, threatened to “shoot down” Venezuelan military aircraft if it approaches US Navy warships again.

The Republican president told media in the Oval Office, “I would say they’re going to be in trouble. We'll let them know about that … If they do put us in a dangerous position, they'll be shot down."

This came a day after two Venezuelan F-16 fighter jets “flew near” a US warship in the Caribbean Sea.

When asked if America aims for regime change in Venezuela, the 79-year-old replied, “Well, we’re not talking about that, but we are talking about the fact that you had an election, which was a very strange election. To put it mildly, I’m being very nice when I say that,” adding, “We don’t want drugs coming in from Venezuela or anybody else, or any place else, so we’ll be tough on that.”

Furthermore, the US Defense Department described the Venezuelan fighter jets’ flyover as a “highly provocative” move and warned its government not to interfere with US counter-narcotics and counter-terror operations.

The United States has also ordered an additional 10 stealth fighter jets at Puerto Rico to support operations against Latin American drug cartels.
