Nintendo lifted the Switch 2 ban almost a day after reports of error 2124-4508.
According to Beebom, Nintendo appeared to have revered the Switch 2 console bans that left the players struck worldwide.
The reports of the error began to spread from Saturday, triggering the company to ban Switch 2.
However, by Monday morning, September 7, the owner in several countries confirmed that the access of Switch 2 had returned.
On the evening of September 6, Nintendo Switch 2 users reported on Reddit that their consoles were “suddenly banned.”
As per the users, an error code 2124-4508 and a message that said, “The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo.”
One netizen said, “I was just playing when suddenly I got banned. I normally buy legitimate games and have never touched any piracy, and the console is brand new and genuine.”
"I bought a new Switch 2 and only used new physical games. I’m waiting for Nintendo support’s response to this unexpected ban," another Reddit user added.
A Japanese user stated, "I had no pre-owned cartridges, yet support claimed illegal software caused the ban."
Looking at the cases, the affected users span markets across Europe, America, and Asia, suggesting the scale of this wave of bans may be far larger than previously imagined.
Numerous users on Reddit reported their consoles had been unbanned following the alarming wave that initially left them unable to access Nintendo Switch Online, the eShop, and other connected features.
As per a report from ITHome and Notebookcheck, the company’s support said that it was a temporary system fault that was caused by “server error,” assuring that it was not a privacy crackdown.
Meanwhile, players who slowly started regaining access to their accounts noted that the issue did not appear due to server error.
It is worth noting that this was not the first time when Nintendo has issued widespread bans on Switch 2 consoles. In June 2025, Nintendo banned users who used the MIG Switch flash cart, which allowed them to load backups of Nintendo Switch games and play them on the console.
However, at the time, this ban was implemented against users who used illegal methods to play games.
