British actor Callum Turner has been vocal about a challenging period of his life, revealing that he struggled with heavy marijuana while trying to deal with depression and frustration.

The Masters of the Air star later recalled how challenging his relationship assisted him to moving forward in his life.

1. Turner started smoking weed at 18

The Boys in the Boat artist revealed that he got addicted to marijuana at the age of 18 and continued using it till the age of 26.

Those early years of life were highly crucial, as he was pursuing acting while also trying to deal with a challenging time period he did not fully understand.


2. He described himself as a “real addict”

While conversing with The Independent in 2020, Turner revealed that he got addicted to weed so much that he started consuming it on a regular basis and eventually considered himself a real addict.

3. Callum Turner was using marijuana to cope

Turner associated his heavy cannabis use to depression and frustration. He further explained that he lacked the understanding to deal with his mindset, leading him to self-medicate for a longer time period.

4. He felt the habit cost him years

Looking back, The Capture artist stated the experience had “stunted something” and he had missed four years of his life due to his relationship with weed.

Turner’s latest comments underscored how seriously he viewed that period.

5. Therapy became part of his growth

Turner has been vocal about personal therapy and growth. In a 2025 Vanity Fair interview, he stated he had undergone multiple therapies ahead of his late 20s, explaining that he wanted to keep positive behavior patterns while letting go of unhealthy ones.
