Denmark’s Crown Prince Christian has made a heartfelt admission about the realities of family life as a member of the royal family.

In an interview with X Factor judge Benjamin Hav, shared on YouTube on Sunday, Crown Prince Christian said he had always understood that he would one day become king.

Giving one example, he said: "My parents didn't always have time to take me to school, so someone else had to do it. Then the other children came with their parents.”

"And then I had two grown men walking around me all the time," he added, referring to his bodyguards.

During another part of the conversation, Benjamin Hav asked Christian if the King and the former head of state offer him advice, prompting the prince to make a candid admission.

He stated, "I try to look at what my father did or what my grandmother did. It's a small common thread, without me copying it completely, because then you don't become a person with your own identity.”

On a lighter note, Christian revealed that he spends time hunting and playing golf with King Frederik.

He explained that Sundays are usually a chance for the family to get together for dinner, and he counts sushi among his favourite foods.

Christian was also asked how he copes with being in the public eye, with hundreds of people filming him and approaching him.

"I don't want to feel self-conscious about being myself," he said. "I don't want to think, 'No, I can't do that because there are too many people."

Crown Prince Christian's major milestone after his 21st birthday

Crown Prince Christian marked his 21st birthday on October 15 with a major royal honour from his father, King Frederik, who awarded him the Grand Cross of the Commander of the Order of Dannebrog.

The distinction was highlighted in three birthday photographs released by the Royal House.
