Kate Middleton avoided the royal struggles and personal tragedies that shaped Princess Diana’s life.
According to a royal expert, the Princess of Wales relationship with Prince William and the backing of her extended family have helped her avoid the personal struggles that marked Princess Diana’s life.
Speaking on the A Right Royal podcast, biographer Ingrid Seward highlighted the key differences between Kate Middleton and Princess Diana’s lives.
"It's one of the tragedies of Diana's story that she was adored by millions, yet emotionally denied by the few who mattered most," the journalist said.
"Diana faced it alone," she pointed out, before adding, "While life is not perfect, [Kate's] is rooted in a shared understanding with William."
"Kate took lessons from Diana," Seward alleged.
"She saw that Diana gave so much of herself to people, but it exposed her too much," she continued.
Seward mentioned, "Kate learned from that: just give enough, but don't give too much, because you're too vulnerable that way and people are going to strip you bare if you do that."
Like Diana, Kate had to adapt to the responsibilities and public expectations that came with becoming a member of the royal family.
"Being a Princess of Wales is not just about acting as a decorative accessory," Seward explained.
"The title and rank can be a force for good, employed by both Diana and Kate to champion big issues, using their celebrity to shine a light on often overlooked but critical challenges," the commentator noted.
The reporter suggested that Kate Middleton and Princess Diana shared a natural connection with children, adding that they would likely have bonded over it.
She also noted that Diana’s legacy lives on through her sons and her influence on royal engagements, with Kate continuing that work.
Princess Diana’s tragic life
To note, Princess Diana’s life within the British royal family was marked by intense public scrutiny, a troubled marriage, struggles with the pressures of royal life and a tragic early death.
