Kensington Palace has reportedly responded to Prince Harry’s emotional comments about reconciling with his estranged brother, Prince William.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official account announced the development as William greeted the Sultan at his London residence on Tuesday, a day after he arrived in the UK, before joining him for a formal welcome with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor.
Notably, this update came shortly after the Duke of Sussex sat down with GQ’s Zach Baron for a video interview, which was filmed in late September during Harry’s visit to New York City.
During their conversation, Baron asked Harry whether he felt a sense of loss over his “complicated relationship” with his father and brother.
“Yes, of course,” Prince Harry answered, adding that family rifts are a “massively relatable issue for so many people.”
“That continues to come up with me the whole time by people that I speak to. So I know how relatable it is,” Harry continued.
The duke added, “That’s probably why there’s so much fascination. And then people maybe look at us and go, ‘How are you going to work it out?’ And then, maybe, how I see you’re going to work it out, maybe that will help me work my stuff out. And some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out.”
Harry reiterated his desire for reconciliation, saying, “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile.”
Asked whether the family rift could be repaired, he replied, “Yeah, of course,” adding that letting go of the past was important and there was already “enough drama in the world” without ongoing family conflicts.
His spokesperson stressed that his comment about “some people” opposing reconciliation was not directed at Prince William or any other family member, explaining that it was a general observation rather than a personal criticism.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back as working royals in 2020, bringing their family rift into focus.
The couple later shared more details through their 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview and his 2023 memoir.
