Prince Harry has opened up about the reasons behind bringing his family back to the UK, shedding light on the personal considerations and family ties behind the decision.

In a newly released interview with GQ’s Zach Baron, filmed during his September trip to New York City, the Duke of Sussex revealed what prompted him and Meghan Markle to consider moving their family, including Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, back to the UK.

“Opportunities for the family,” Harry, 42, said first about their reasons for the move.

He added, “Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me. I didn’t know how important it was to me.”

“I always thought it was gonna be something that I would try and do or that we would try and do, but now they’ve been in school for two weeks,” he noted.

Harry continued, “They’re loving it, and it’s just giving them a whole different experience.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not criticizing American schools,” he mentioned, before adding, “But I think for kids at 7 and 5 to be able to have that comparison and to have two completely different cultural experiences is so important today.”

Prince Harry also explained that the move would allow him to be closer to his family and spend more time in the UK, rather than visiting for just a few days or a week at a time.

The duke added, “It’s been nice to be close to friends, family, friends and friends and their children as well, to be able to have endless playdates to really, like, help our kids settle in.”

Prince Harry and Meghan, 45, stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where Archie was a baby and Lilibet was born the following year.

In August, the couple announced plans to return to the UK for an extended stay, with their children enrolled in school there, and arrived that month.
