Kabir Khan has opened up about the emotional toll that was experienced by him and Aditya Chopra when they casted ex-lovers Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif for Ek Tha Tiger.

Sitting for an interview with Mukesh Chhabra for Mashable India, he recalled that two superstars had just ended their relationship when they approached Salman for signing the movie.

The director said, “Katrina had already signed the film. She was Zoya. Katrina is just like a family to me. She is extremely close to Mini (Mathur), kids, and me. And then we went to Salman.”

“This was the stage when they had broken up, so it wasn’t comfortable. I told him I wanted Katrina, and he knew my connection with her,” he added.

Although both of them had come for getting the actor to say yes, when he simply did, they were still immensely surprised.

Kabir continued, “Adi and I were driving back to Yash Raj studios and we were silent because we had just cast Salman Khan for the first time. Katrina was already there. For about 5-10 mins, we kept silent and then he said, ‘Yaar, bauhat bari casting hai.’ ”

And it was a huge casting as per celebrity weightage indeed because Ek Tha Tiger went down in history, eventually leading the path to YRF’s spyverse.
