Billie Eilish has opened up about the “inspiration” for her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

The What Was I Made For? hitmaker shared that she didn’t have a nose plug during the underwater cover phone shoot of her track.

Billie shared that she was “basically waterboarding myself for six hours” during a conversation on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“A lot of my inspirations for the visuals on this album were optical illusion-type things,” she continued, “Things that just make you question it or think about it for longer.”

The host asked the renowned singer about the creative person behind this photoshoot.

Billie took the credit and quipped, “‘Guys, it could be so cool if I could almost die.'” continuing, “Dude, I’ve done it so many times — almost died in these shoots. It’s like I need to suffer.”

The Grammy-winning artist also revealed that the giant tank was “10 feet deep” and she was strapped with heavy weight during the underwater shoot.

Billie’s third studio album, which she worked on with her brother Finneas O’Connell, features 10 tracks.
