Shawwal’s crescent moon could not be sighted by the Saudi Arabian moon sighting committee today, on April 8, 2024.
Saudi Gazette reported that Ramadan will continue for a total of 30 days until Tuesday in the kingdom, ending with the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.
The International Astronomical Center had announced earlier that the countries where Ramadan commenced on March 11 would expect a crescent sighting on Monday.
But since Pakistan had marked the beginning of this holy festival on March 12, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will gather in Islamabad for observing the Shawwal-ul-Mukarram moon.
Chairman of the group, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, is appointed to be presiding over the assembly.
Members from other government serving organizations – such as Pakistan Meteorological Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, and The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission – will be present for assistance during the occasion.
Regional contributors from Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta as well as news agencies are to be counted on for participation.
Last year, testimonies on the crescent’s sighting were not received from any territory of Pakistan, although the moon had been glimpsed in Saudi Arab.
