Vidya Balan has said that male stars get anxious when women are given meatier roles in movies.

Recently inaugurating The Indian Express’ newly launched show, Expresso, she dived into her marriage, past relationships, and fresher days in the industry.

And when it came to shining some light on how the mighty success of her women centric flicks – like The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, No One Killed Jessica, etc. – led to male actors snubbing her, the actress didn’t hold back.

Vidya rolled her eyes, “Back in the day? I don’t think they’d be okay even today to star in a Vidya Balan film or a female-led film for that matter. It’s their loss, honestly, because we are doing better films than they are. I genuinely believe that.”

“They are doing more formulae-based films. Women-led films are far more exciting. Of course, people have been appreciative, but male stars are uncomfortable with women taking center stage. I don’t think they’d be okay with anyone stealing the thunder,” she added.

Salman Khan, John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, and many other male counterparts have only been working in masala movies lately. Notably Shah Rukh Khan’s entire career has always overflowed with such productions.

They delivered Jawan, Pathaan, Fighter, Animal, Tiger 3, Yodhaa, Bholaa, Bloody Daddy, etc.

Serious cinema scripts are solely taken by small actors, such as Gulshan Devaiah, Sanjay Mishra, Sumeet Vyas, Vinay Pathak, and Kay Kay Menon.

Popular female stars, on the other hand, have given Merry Christmas, Crew, Kathal, Trial Period, Jaane Jaan, Amar Singh Chamkila, and Goldfish.
