Kevin Costner has expressed love for comedian John Mulaney’s 2024 Academy Awards stage performance, which was a gag based on his 1989 movie, Field of Dreams.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, he said, “I couldn't believe that guy. Amazing! I watched it a second time. I loved what he did.”

“What a chance… because there's always people in the Oscars trying to rush you. And he went fast. But what he said, I was very touched by it,” the Yellowstone star added.

This tribute in particular was fancied by him so much, that he went on to call his fellow actor a “gifted” man.

Field of Dreams was a sports fantasy, where Kevin had played the role of Ray Kinsella, who builds a baseball diamond on his cornfield, and is subsequently visited by the ghosts of famous players.

Based on W.P. Kinsella’s 1982 book, Shoeless Joe, the film focused on the pain of lost dreams and generational ties coupled with discovering oneself in magical ways.

John explained the entire plot at the Oscars, poking fun here and there along the way.

Kevin was left in an awe and stated, “I should talk to him because I was really impressed. He was a genius.”
