Four law enforcement officers were shot dead, and four others were wounded while trying to serve a warrant on Monday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to BBC, police officials have said that two armed suspects were involved in the shooting.

However, one attacker was found dead in the front yard of the home.

As per police, the standoff lasted for three hours.

The shooting suddenly started on a suburban street when officers led by the US Marshals Service were trying to serve a warrant against a felon wanted for illegally possessing a firearm.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings told in a news conference, “Today we lost some heroes who were out simply trying to keep our community safe.”

Moreover, it was the worst and deadliest attack on US law enforcement in decades.

According to the witnesses, shots were ringing out for more than two hours after the attack began in the residential area.

The US Marshals Service confirmed in a statement that one of its officers had been killed in the raid.

Additionally, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper stated that two officers of the state’s Department of Adult Corrections were also killed in the assault.

Governor Cooper wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Our hearts are with the families and co-workers of officers in today's brutal attack.”
