Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most awaited and big budget series Heeramandi has sparked a great debate among audience after its release on Netflix on May 1,2024.
Some people are loving the storytelling, cinematography and backdrop while others arguing about its weak plot and performances.
Shortly after the release of SLB’s Heeramandi, fans turned to the social networking platform X, to express their thoughts and mixed reactions.
One Fan tweeted “Sanjay Leela Bhansali failed to deliver the 1920s imagery and the storytelling with substandard acting in an overhyped series despite good formula cinematography”.
While another noted, “Why does Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes films on mostly courtesans, he actually glorifies the concept of it. Casting the beautiful actresses with extravagant fancy royal costumes, jewels and majestic sets. He portrays that prostitutes lived like queens.”
One user expressed, “Yes, it's grand. The sets, decor, costumes, Shahi Mahal...Opulent. The performances are all powerful. Language rich, music soulfu" adding, "But Eight episodes, each an hour long. Monotony, Predictability and Boredom seep in. Too long."
On the other hand, the viewers also applauded the cast and director of Heeramandi for their tremendous work.
One enthusiast noted “Bhansali has crafted magic, damn good #HeeraMandiOnNetflix mind-blowing art choreography acting dialogue delivery, what a treat to watch another masterstroke by legend.”
Another user praised, “Watched EP1 and.... and can assure you that the camerawork and artistique detailing in each frame have never been seen before in bollywood.’
The 8-episode long series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is set in pre-Independence India and is based on the lives of courtesans in the red light area of Lahore.
Heeramandi's cast includes Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, and others.
