US rapper Macklemore pays tribute to Palestine, student protestors in new song

Macklemore promised all proceeds from the song will go towards UNRWA

The US rapper Macklemore released a new surprise song in support of Palestine and students protesting across the US.

The song titled ‘Hind’s Hall’ released on Monday, gained more than a million views in just a few days.

Macklemore posted the song on his Instagram account with a caption, “HIND’S HALL. Once it’s up on streaming all proceeds to UNRWA.”

According to CNN, the song title comes from the Columbia University protestors who have renamed the residence Hamilton Hall to Hind’s Hall.

The protestors at the University shouted, “This building is liberated in honour of Hind, a six-year-old Palestinian child murdered in Gaza by the Israeli occupation forces funded by Columbia University.”

Macklemore raps, “The people, they won't leave. What is threatening about divesting and wanting peace? The problem isn’t the protests; it’s what they’re protesting. It goes against what our country is funding.”

Referring to the police crackdown against college students, he raps, “If students in tents posted on the lawn. Occupying the quad is really against the law. And a reason to call in the police and their squad. Where does genocide land in your definition, huh?”

Macklemore’s song echoes the sentiments of pro-Palestinian protestors who say they will not vote for Biden in Presidential elections and address him, saying, “Blood is on your hands.”

In addition to that, Palestine supporters from all over the world praised the singer in the comment section.

Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza applauded the singer while the other user wrote, “Macklemore > Drake + Kendrick.”

The third user wrote, “This is how you end a rap battle.” Another user commented, “Thank you! You're a real artist of the people.”
