Elizabeth Debicki, who portrayed the role of Princess Diana in The Crown, revealed the profound impact the character had on her.
Debicki, who is gearing up for the BAFTA TV awards, revealed to The Sun that she was left with “extreme terror” at the idea of taking on the iconic role.
She shared, “It was really the strangest job of my life to date, without a doubt.”
The Australian actress who has already garnered Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice awards, continued, “It all happened within a swamp of terror as well, like a swamp of extreme terror that was linked to a sense of responsibility.”
The Tenet star who is preparing for new projects this summer, including a romantic thriller and a sci-fi drama, admitted that she needed “to do something different” after such responsibility.
Debicki succeeded Emma Corrin in the successful Netflix series, playing Diana for the fifth and sixth seasons, which featured Diana's death in 1997.
Speaking about her casting, she said, “Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.”
Debicki noted, “It is my privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
