Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s neighbours in Montecito have spoken out while the couple was away in Nigeria this week.
Express UK, on May 13, talked to people who live and work around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s neighbourhood of Montecito, California, where they have lived since stepping away from royal duties in 2020.
As per the publication, a woman who works at a Montecito boutique told them: “Day to day people don't see them. I don't think it's too much of an impact here.”
The editor of the local Montecito newspaper, Zach Rosen, also chimed in, saying: “We probably feel the media presence more than their presence. We're usually taking the stance that these are our community members and we do want to respect their privacy.”
Even a bookshop owner revealed: “I have seen black SUVs on my road. Other than that, it has no impact at all.”
However, the co-owner of Tresor Montecito shared: “It's kind of the way Montecito is anyway, everyone just does their own thing.”
The comments come as Prince Harry has been away from Montecito for a week now. He landed in the UK last week on Tuesday, May 7, to attend the 10th anniversary service of the Invictus Games Foundation. Meghan then joined him and the couple flew to Nigeria over the weekend.
