Scientists have discovered some hidden benefits of weight training besides gaining muscles.

According to New York Post, a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that weight training strengthens muscles throughout the body, including the brain.

The research suggested that weight training activities also lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes by improving the ability of the brain to process and access glucose.

Moreover, the researchers found that a session of exercise or weight training can decrease blood glucose and insulin levels for up to 24 hours.

Another study published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease revealed that even regular exercise can have a big impact on the human brain.

Dr David Merrill, the co-author of the study, said, “We found that even moderate levels of physical activity, such as taking fewer than 4,000 steps a day, can have a positive effect on brain health.”

Fitness coach and personal trainer Claudette Sariya told the New York Post, “When it comes to working out, there are six basic movements: squats, hinges, pushes, pulls, lunges and carries.”

Sariya added, “Once you feel comfortable with those movements, then you can combine them into more complex moves.”
