The PGA Tour star, Rory McIlroy has recently filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll after seven years of marriage.

Documents were filed in Florida on Monday, May 13, marking the end of their relationship.

A statement released by McIlroy's camp on Tuesday evening reads: "Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed. They stressed Rory's desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making any further comment."

Meanwhile, the filing also requests joint custody of Poppy, the 3-year-old daughter of McIlroy and Stoll.

While the reasons for the split remain undisclosed.

However, all attention will be on McIlroy as he addresses the media at 3 pm local time (8 pm Irish time) on Wednesday, ahead of this week's PGA Championship.

Moreover, both Rory and Erica have consistently maintained privacy regarding their relationship, although Erica, his wife, was present to support her husband and Team Europe during the 2023 Ryder Cup.

For the unversed, McIlroy and Stoll tied the knot in a grand ceremony at Mayo's Ashford Castle in 2017, featuring performances by Stevie Wonder and Ed Sheeran.

The wedding, estimated to cost over €200,000, saw attendees like Padraig Harrington and Niall Horan.
