Furiosa left audiences stunned as Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth received an extraordinary six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.
The latest Mad Max film, featuring Taylor-Joy as the titular protagonist and Hemsworth as the ruthless warlord Dementus, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, 15 May.
During the ovation to George Miller's prequel of the 2015 film, The Queens’s Gambit star can be observed sending kisses to the camera while the applause went on, taking a dramatic bow.
Meanwhile the Thor star appeared to be tearing up at the enthusiastic reaction.
Miller said before the screening, “We worked very hard on this film, and it’ll be very interesting to see what you make of it.”
He added, “Thank you for having us.”
Furiosa is a prequel to the 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road directed by Miller, and it is set in a post-apocalyptic world.
The movie stars Taylor-Joy, who takes on the title role previously portrayed by Charlize Theron.
In the early part of the film, a young Furiosa is captured and held captive by a band of bandits led by the Warlord Dementus.
Furosia is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on 24 May 2024.
