60-year-old Argentine beauty queen Alejandra Rodriguez’s run for Miss Universe has come to an end.

According to CNN, Miss Buenos Aires believes that although her race for Miss Universe has ended, her remarkable journey is the ‘first step of change’ in the perception of society.

Rodriguez made a headline in April when she was crowned as Miss Buenos Aires. She made history and became the first sexagenarian to win a contest organized by the Miss Universe franchise.

She did not win the contest but became Miss Argentina and got an opportunity to represent her country in the Miss Universe pageant.

However, Rodriguez, an attorney and journalist, won the ‘best face’ category.

Rodriguez told CNN, “This is the first step of a change that is coming. I hope this (my participation) marks a before and after. I think exterior beauty is always the main focus. I don’t think that it’s wrong to select a beautiful woman, but maybe the concept of beauty needs to expand.”

She further added, “It was a change that is positive. I think it is little by little, like all changes. (She was thankful to have) the opportunity to be the first.”

Rodriguez noted, “There was also a 40-year-old woman who participated, another who is 37. It’s like the limits are already expanding. There were women who are mothers, things that were unthinkable before in Miss Universe.”

Magalí Benejam, 29, won the Miss Universe Argentina 2024 crown on Saturday, May 25.
