'Twisters' dominates North American box office with storming success

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell starrer 'Twisters' was released in North America on July 19, 2024

Universal's latest release, Twisters, is crushing expectations in North American theaters with its spectacular success.

The American disaster film, which is a standalone sequel to 1996's disaster epic Twister, was released on Friday, July 19, 2024, in North America.

Taking the box office by storm, the movie collected a whopping $80.5 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend.

However, since its international release on July 10, Twisters has struggled to make a significant impact at the global box office.

Over the weekend, the film has collected $27.1 across 76 territories, contributing to a total overall earnings of $42 million worldwide.

Twisters, whose total budget is $155-200 million, has grossed $123.2 million to date.

The movie has earned $5.5 million in the UK, $2.5 million in Mexico, $2 million in Australia, and $1.9 million in France.

As reported by the theater owners to The New York Times, the film has taken over the domestic box office for a variety of reasons, including notably the absence of natural disaster movies from the market and a smart cast, pairing Glen Powell, a rising star with broad appeal, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, who is a favorite among young women.

Twisters, which is directed by Lee Issac Chung, features an ensemble cast that includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Brandon Perea.
