Hugh Jackman is opening up about the hardships of getting back into his iconic character, Wolverine!

During an interview with PEOPLE Magazine for a cover story, the Free Guy actor appeared alongside his long-term pal Ryan Reynolds, and opened up about his comeback as the beloved X-Men character, Wolverine.

Jackman also shared insights into his dramatic body transformation needed to make for the character.

"I had got to the point; it must have been probably 10 years ago; I was like, I'm not enjoying it. It was hurting. It was tough," told the iconic actor.

He went on to reveal details about his hiatus from the character, during which he immersed himself into “a lot of dance and stage & arena shows.”

“And so when I came back to it, it was really fun, and I was thrilled,” told Jackman to the outlet.

Opening up about the diet they followed to add muscles for their superhero movies, the Wolverine actor told, “I have to eat a lot. For me, for my body type, I'm naturally skinny — to get the size on, that's the hardest bit. That's the bit that does my head in."

Noting that they had five, six meals a day, Reynolds shared, “It's not like the type of food that you would really necessarily enjoy."

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds recently starred in Deadpool and Wolverine, which is the third sequel to 2016’s Deadpool.
