Robert Downey Jr. takes on new role in 'Avengers: Doomsday': 'New Mask, Same Task'

The Tony Stark/ Iron Man will make his comeback in Marvel Cinematic Universe with villainous Victor von Doom


Robert Downey Jr. has sparked a wave of excitement as he is set to reprise his iconic role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time as the formidable Doctor Doom.

According to Variety, Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran is making a comeback as Doctor Doom in a new film dubbed Avengers: Doomsday.

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film as part of their own comeback to Marvel in their next Avengers films, Avengers: Secret Wars and Doomsday.

Fans were confident that Downey will play Ironman/Tony Stark again because he had made his comeback so clear in previous interviews.

The fan base, particularly the enthusiastic audience at Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con presentation, is completely taken aback by his return as the monstrous Victor von Doom.

On Saturday night, Downey triumphantly showed up at Hall H to announce his return.


As he stepped onto the panel's stage, Downey remarked, "New mask, same task," among a cast of performers donning robes and masks. "What did I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters."

To note, n 2008's Iron Man, the first film in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe created by Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige, Downey made his debut as the playboy super-genius Stark.

Ten Marvel films, including Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers, Captian America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, saw Downey reprise his character over the course of the following eleven years.
