American Lee Kiefer wins second Olympic gold in women’s foil fencing

Lee Kiefer dedicated her victory to her late coach, Buckie Leach

American fencer Lee Kiefer secured her second Olympic gold medal in women's foil fencing, triumphing over teammate Lauren Scruggs with a decisive 15-6 victory in Paris.

As per ESPN, Kiefer’s win is historic, marking only the second time an American has won back-to-back golds in the same fencing event.

The event was a landmark for Scruggs as well, who became the first Black fencer to win an Olympic medal in an individual women's event for the United States.

Kiefer dedicated her victory to her late coach, Buckie Leach, who passed away shortly after guiding her to gold in Tokyo.

She also acknowledged the support from her husband, Gerek Meinhardt, a fellow Olympic medalist who will also compete in Paris.

In addition to this, Canada’s Eleanor Harvey earned a bronze medal, becoming the first Canadian to achieve an Olympic medal in fencing.

Japan’s Koki Kano claimed gold in men’s epee, marking Japan’s first individual gold in Olympic fencing, whereas Egypt’s Mohamed Elsayed won bronze in men’s epee, defeating Hungary’s Tibor Andrasfi in overtime.
