Donald Trump praises and hugs staffer for her role in foiling assassination attempt

Donald Trump praised the woman as a 'computer genius'

Former US President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to a staffer who he credits with saving his life during a recent campaign rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The staffer, who had put up an immigration chart on screen moments before an assassination attempt, was invited on stage where Trump embraced and thanked her.

During the rally, Trump praised the woman as a "computer genius" and told the cheering crowd, "She saved my life."

The woman, smiling widely, managed only a brief greeting into the microphone, which drew a smile from Trump.

This rally was Trump's first since the July 13 attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump noted that the chart, which details illegal immigration trends in the US, is typically displayed at the end of his speeches but was shown earlier at the Butler rally.

As Trump turned to view the chart, would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him. The bullet narrowly missed Trump, grazing his ear instead.

The former president mentioned that he would "sleep with that chart for the rest of my life," highlighting its role in the incident.

To note, Crooks, who fired eight shots, wounded two people and killed a 50-year-old volunteer firefighter before being shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper.
